Just so you know, if you click on a product on RoastyCoffee.com and decide to buy it, we may earn a small commission.

The Nespresso Lattissima Pro is the ultimate coffee accessory with options for brewing espressos, macchiatos, lattes, cappuccinos, hot water, and more.

All of the features in the flagship Lattissima Pro come at a steep price, though. So, before you invest in the ultimate coffee system, we put together all of the details on this machine to help you make an informed decision.

Things You Should Consider

Nespresso Lattissima Pro

When choosing a rapid cappuccino machine, it is crucial to consider a few things like:

  • How often will you use your device?
  • Do you enjoy the process of creating your coffee beverages, or do you want the fastest way to enjoy your favorite drink?
  • Will other people in your home or office use the machine?

If you have been considering your purchase for a while, you have likely done some research. You might even know whether you want an automatic or semi-automatic espresso maker. The automated options do pretty much everything for you.

However, if you enjoy the process of creating that perfect cup, you might like a more hands-on approach that you can get from a semi-automatic espresso machine.

Features of an Espresso Machine

The quality of the espresso your machine makes depends on the components. There are eight main components and features to consider when you choose a device.

Pressure Pump

Nespresso Lattissima Pro High Pressure Pump

The pressure pump is essential to the final result. Nine bars is usually the minimum pressure you want to receive a decent shot. However, the higher the pressure, the finer ground you can use. Using fine ground and high pressure leads to better extraction. Yet, you also have to be mindful not to over-extract the grounds.

Boiler

Another critical component is the boiler. The quality, size, and material the boiler is made of all impact the final result. The most common materials used for the boiler are:

  • Aluminum – A cheap option that heats quickly
  • Steel – Heavier material that is more suitable for high use
  • Brass – Another heavy metal that is excellent for maintaining heat

The size of the boiler will affect the ability of it to heat quickly. However, if you want to take multiple shots in a short period, they take longer to recover between shots.

Portafilter

You place the coffee in the portafilter to make your espresso. The portafilter can either be pressurized or commercial. A pressurized portafilter is more common in consumer machines. The commercial portafilter is usually larger, and it gives a more substantial area for extraction.

Group Head

The group head holds the portafilter. The material the group head is made from affects the quality of the shots. Like the boiler, the most desirable material for the group head is brass.

The Valves

There are two types of valves you might find in an espresso machine. The two types are spring valves and 3-way solenoid valves. The 3-way solenoid valves are higher quality and generally last longer. After some time, you might find a machine with spring valves will start to leak.

Pod Compatibility

Pods are popular. If you like to use them, you need to make sure your machine is compatible with pods.

Milk Frothing Device

For coffee lovers who like a drink with foam, you might want to choose a machine with a built-in frother.

Get to Know Nespresso

The Nespresso company was founded more than 30 years ago. The motivation behind the company is to give you the ability to brew coffee shop quality in your own home. The first machine debuted in 1986. However, there have been significant improvements in the quality of the products the company produces since then.

Nespresso now produces machines for businesses and consumers. Since the company started selling espresso machines, they have debuted more than two dozen, with some being more popular than others.

The Nespresso Lattissima is a complex machine that is simple to operate. You do not have to be a skilled barista to create a quality beverage using the machine. Here are a few of the benefits we like in this option:

  • High-pressure pump with 19 bars
  • Straightforward set-up
  • Ability to craft several espresso-based beverages
  • Pod compatible
  • Automatic shutoff
  • Onboard milk frother

Room for Improvement

Despite all of the incredible features of the Nespresso Lattissima Pro, there are some things we wish were different:

  • A thermoblock boiler instead of a steel or brass option
  • The short electric cord limits placement
  • Only one color option
  • It costs more than most similar machines

Features and Benefits of the Nespresso Lattissima Pro

The Nespresso Lattissima Pro is full of beneficial features coffee lovers can appreciate. It is also an attractive addition to your kitchen.

Appearance

While there is only one finish available, the stainless steel exterior has a great look and feel. Unlike many machines, it is not bulky. Nespresso has genuinely created a beautiful piece of kitchen equipment with attractive lines. The simplistic style gives it a timeless appearance, and it does not take an excessive amount of counter space.

You can store the accessories inside of the machine, so they are quickly accessible and out of sight when you are not using them.

Built-In Features

Nespresso Lattissima Pro One touch is all

The built-in features make crafting delicious drinks straightforward. You do not have to spend a lot of time studying the machine before you start using it, which makes it great for use by more than one person.

The one-touch features built-in to the Nespresso Lattissima Pro include:

  • Ristretto
  • Espresso
  • Lungo
  • Cappuccino
  • Latte
  • Machiatto
  • Warm milk froth
  • Hot water

Quick Start-Up Time

The thermoblock heating system gives the machine the ability to heat up quickly. Although this is not the ideal heating system, it does have some advantages.

The Water Reservoir

The water reservoir located at the back of the machine holds 44 ounces of water, and the location does not take away from the appearance of the device. However, if you have to place the machine under your cabinets, which most people will due to the short power cord, it can be difficult to refill. You have to unplug the unit and pull it out to remove the tank and refill it.

Built-In Milk Frother

The Nespresso Lattissima Pro has a built-in foaming system that is easy to adjust for the perfect foam.

Descaling Made Easy

Nespresso Lattissima Pro descaling and energy saving program

The descaling options make it easy to maintain your machine. Follow the simple steps to perform the descaling. Once the process is complete, the device is ready to use again.

Automatic Clean Up

Auto-clean makes keeping the Lattissima in optimal condition easy. Plus, the milk carafe and other parts are dishwasher-safe. The convenient cleanup features make this machine one of the easiest to maintain.

Pod Disposal System

A pod disposal system makes it easy to remove used pods from the machine. It can hold up to 16 pods before you have to empty the container. You can also send the pods to Nespresso to have them recycled.

Light-Weight

The machine weighs just over 14 pounds, which is relatively light. The thermoblock heating system and compact design allow Nespresso to achieve the light-weight, which makes it easy to maneuver.

High-Grade Feel

The feel of the rapid cappuccino machine is sturdy. The components are all made of high-quality, durable materials, which give it longevity making this a gadget you can use for years.

BPA-Free Accessories and Pods

The Nespresso pods used in the Lattissima Pro are BPA-free. So, you do not have to worry about adverse health issues from using the pods frequently. The milk carafe and steam wand are also BPA-free.

Cup Size Compatibility

You can use almost any size coffee mug or insulated cup. For smaller cups, there is a fold-down grate to prevent the coffee from splattering as it fills the cup. Large containers easily fit under the spout with the grate folded up. The ability to use many different cups with the Lattissima Pro is unique to this model. Other models lack the fold-down grate, and the spout is placement does not allow for the use of larger tumbler-size mugs.

Alternatives to the Nespresso Lattissima Pro

All of the Nespresso machines give you the ability to create unique coffee beverages. However, the Nespresso is one of the flagship machines in the lineup. However, the Lattissima is not perfect for everyone.

Some people may find that the Lattissima Pro has more options than they need. The cost is also a significant consideration as it is one of the most expensive options available. Other rapid cappuccino or espresso machines might be better for people who do not frequently make different beverages.

Nespresso KitchenAid Espresso Maker

The KitchenAid Nespresso Espresso Maker is an option that is great for avid espresso drinkers who do not make many other coffee beverages. It has many of the same features the Lattissima Pro has, but it lacks a few of the bells and whistles. Never the less, it is a quality machine that brews fantastic espresso shots, and it has a built-in milk foamer, too.

Nespresso Lattissima Touch

On Sale

The smaller Lattissima Touch is an excellent Nespresso machine that still has programs for crafting other unique coffees. It uses the same pods and a similar system. However, it does not hold as much water. The reservoir tank has a 30-ounce capacity compared to the 40-ounce reservoir of the Pro.

The Touch espresso is easy to use, and it has a built-in frother. It is also smaller, which makes it a better fit for people with limited counter space and those who like to have more workspace for preparing meals.

Nespresso Lattissima Plus

No products found.

If an even smaller unit interests you, the Plus is another option. The water tank holds 30 ounces, and it does have an onboard milk frother like the two larger models. It comes with just four preset options, though. Nevertheless, it is capable of making espresso, coffee, lattes, macchiatos, and cappuccinos. It is a fantastic size for a small apartment or even a dorm room.

Make Espresso Without a Machine

If you simply can’t justify spending the money to splurge on a state-of-the-art espresso machine that practically does everything for you, you can create your espresso without a machine. Of course, this is not as impressive if you have dinner guests over, and it is more time-consuming. However, with some effort, it is possible.

Wrapping Up

The Nespresso Lattissima Pro is a top-notch coffee companion. It gives you the ability to be a barista in your own home with minimal effort and time. The automatic cleaning and easy descaling options keep things fun and carefree. Plus, it is a visually appealing piece of equipment. It looks great in any kitchen.

While the cost is high, it is a machine that should last for some years, and it is an excellent addition for households with several coffee enthusiasts even if they all have a different go-to beverage. If you are in the market for an espresso machine with all the bells and whistles, the Pro is one of the best units you can purchase.
